Hi everyone,
I'm busy working on the notes from the Affiliate Incubator Seminar this past weekend, however I wanted to take the time to make a few general notes about attending internet marketing seminars:
- Don't be shy! Go up and introduce yourself to everyone! Most people are pretty friendly.
- Make sure you have a business card to hand out. Even if it's something simple like your name and email address (like I did)
- Don't be too critical of the speakers. At this particular seminar, most of the speakers got a chance to speak twice. A couple of them I didn't think were so great during their first presentation, but they sure changed my mind during their second presentation!
- If you can, try and stay at the host hotel. I was a local that had to drive home every night, but I think I would have gotten more out of being able to stay and network with others staying there.
- Take notes! Even if they provide some handouts (which no one did here anyway), note taking is a great way to "cement" what's being said. At this seminar, the speakers were giving out a lot of resources and URLs I wanted to be able to go look up right away.
There was one speaker who completely bombed, so I won't be mentioning his presentation. Note to future speakers: if you're asked to speak at one of these events, it might be a good idea to get there a day earlier and listen to the other speakers. You'll be able to gauge the feel and tone of the audience, their level of expertise, and get an idea of how the audience is responding. Plus if all the speakers are saying one thing, you don't want to be the guy that gets up there and says the opposite unless you can back up what you say.
Okay, enough lecturing. If you have any general questions about attending an internet marketing seminar, feel free to post them here.
I'll try and get some of the notes up today, but I'm realizing I need to make sure it's organized and that I check out the links before I share them with you. Please remember I won't be giving away any of the secret tips that were given out because that wouldn't be fair to the other attendees that paid money to get them. And I think Russell and Stu would probably kill me.

Great advice Gigi!
I usually need to work on the 1st one - I did pretty well at Affiliate Incubator for some reason.
There’s a technique I developed that might be helpful…
While bringing cards is VITAL (IMHO) and I always prioritize that for myself, I know that people run out, haven’t got them for their own business yet or something that interferes. In that event, I’m fully prepared.
I take a ‘composition’ book to these things and I take my notes in them. I typically write most everything on the right hand pages and put anything I would like to ’stand out’ on the left. I started taping business cards into them as I was taking my notes AND when I meet someone who doesn’t HAVE a business card, I let them fill in their contact info.
This does a couple of things - it sets the info into the stream of the Seminar (did i meet them on the break? before it started, etc.) AND everything is all in one place!
Every Seminar I learn more and more - from the presenters and from the folks who attend.
I’m tracking all of the LIVE! Internet Marketing Seminars in the world for my blog. When I’m ready for more, I’ll be there!
I can’t wait!
